LYDIA. Nysa. Gordian III, 238-244. Hexassarion (Bronze, 38 mm, 23.65 g, 6 h), Aur. Mousonius, grammateus and hiereus. ΑΥΤ Κ Μ ΑΝΤ ΓΟΡΔΙΑΝΟϹ ΑΥ Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Gordian III to right, seen from behind. Rev. ΕΠΙ ΓΡ ΑΥΡ ΜΟΥϹΩΝΙ૪ ΙΕΡΕΩϹ / ΝΥϹΑΕΩΝ Herakles, on the left, standing front, head to right, leaning left on club set on rock and placing his right hand on his hip; on the right, Hermes standing facing, head to left and wearing petasos, holding purse in his right hand and kerykeion in his left. Regling 167. RPC VII.1 471 (same dies). SNG Copenhagen 326. Very rare, the best of now four known examples. A bold and attractive coin struck on a very broad flan. Slightly rough, otherwise, good very fine.
